Thanks to the talented young artists who submitted applications for 2019 BRAVO! The 22 applications received this year marked a 57% increase from 2018 – wow! Weather conditions forced postponement of the January 28 auditions to Monday, February 11. Judges Anders Dahlberg, Rufus Ferguson, Corlyn Longer-Schreck, and Phyllis Rappeport were impressed by the many fine auditions they heard. Announcing the 2019 BRAVO! Competition, a community effort to showcase young musicians in the greater Kalamazoo area. BRAVO! partner organizations include the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, Black Arts & Cultural Center, Crescendo Academy of Music, Fontana, Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Public Media Network, WMUK 102.1 FM, and the Stulberg International String Competition.It takes a village… and we are grateful to all of the organizations and individuals who contribute their time, efforts and resources to provide opportunities for these young musicians to perform for you, our community.

The best local student musical talent

BRAVO! features the best musical talent of local students through grade 12. Performers are selected by audition, which will take place on Monday, January 28, 2019. Audition applications are due by Monday, January 21, 2019 – see below for details and links. Audition times will be scheduled once a completed application is received.

The 2019 BRAVO! winners will be selected by a panel of judges, then featured in a FREE recital in the Judy K. Jolliffe Theatre in the Epic Center on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 7 pm.

Advanced student musicians (through grade 12) performing any style and genre of music may apply. Solos and ensembles welcomed. Those selected must perform the same work as performed at the audition.

Auditions are Monday, January 28, 2019 beginning at 4:30 pm (application required).

Auditions will be held at the Crescendo Academy of Music in the Epic Center on Monday, January 28, 2019 starting at 6 pm. Applicants will be contacted to schedule an audition time once a completed application is received. Applicants must provide their own piano accompanist for auditions, unless the work to be performed is a cappella. For accompanist recommendations, please contact the Stulberg office at or 269-343-2776.
