2010 Accompanists are Andrea Swan and Elizabeth DeMio
Andrea Swan is a well-known chamber musician, collaborative pianist, orchestra pianist and teacher in the Chicago area. She is the principal keyboard player with the Grant Park Music Festival and plays in the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra. Throughout her career, she has been involved with contemporary music groups, including a 20 year stint with the Contemporary Chamber Players of the University of Chicago under the direction of Ralph Shapey, many years with the Fulcrum New Music Project of Chicago, and as a guest with the Chicago Chamber Musician’s Music Toward the Millennium Project, including the inaugural concert under the direction of Pierre Boulez. She regularly plays for instrumentalists in their final auditions for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera Orchestra and has served as the official accompanist for many local and national competitions.
Ms. Swan performs with two piano trios, the Evanston Chamber Ensemble (celebrating its 31st season) and the Pressenda Trio, as well as appearing with other notable chamber groups, including the Rembrandt Chamber Players and the Vermeer Quartet. She appears frequently on the Chicago Symphony chamber music series at Symphony Center in Chicago, on live WFMT radio broadcasts and has been an annual performer at Winterfest, a chamber series at Northwestern University. Her chamber music collaborations included recitals with Lynn Harrell, Gil Shaham, Jennifer Koh, Joseph Silverstein and many others.
After studying with Jack Radunsky as a Bezazium scholarship recipient at Oberlin College, she studied with Gyorgy Sebok and Menahme Pressler at Indiana University, where she earned a Master of Music degree with highest distinction and was awarded the Performer’s Certificate.
ELIZABETH DeMIO received a Bachelor of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan. Her teachers have included Vitya Vronsky and Theodore Lettvin. She is well-known as a collaborative pianist, recitalist, and soloist in the Cleveland area, and has appeared in more than 100 concerts annually with local aspiring musicians. Ms. DeMio appears frequently with soloists such as Randolph Kelly, John Mack, John Clouser, and Sungzhin Lee. She has appeared in tours and given master classes in several cities in the U.S., Korea, and Mexico. She serves on the staff of the John Mack Oboe Camp and has been a staff member of the ENCORE School for Strings.
Ms. DeMio performs often as a soloist with the Trinity Cathedral Chamber Orchestra, a group in Cleveland following the tradition of daytime concerts in the great cathedrals of London. She has performed 20 Mozart concerti and the five Beethoven concerti as well as works by Schumann, Mendelssohn, Ravel, and others with the Trinity Cathedral Chamber Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist for the Orquesta Sinfonica de Veracruz and the Orquesta de la UNAM in Mexico. Ms. DeMio is also a recording artist and can be heard on the Crystal and Azica labels, most recently with works by Samuel Adler. She has also been featured on a soon-to-be released CD of works by Bernard Garfield with soloist John Clouser.
